Project Overview
R. Benson was selected, following a competitive tender process, to deliver fire door upgrades and associated fire safety works at two primary schools within the London Borough of Brent. Our appointment reflects the high standard of delivery and expertise in fire door installation demonstrated on previous schemes.
Across both schools, our directly employed, multi-skilled and FIRAS-accredited team installed a total of 29 FD30 fire-rated door sets, ensuring full compliance with all relevant standards and statutory requirements. In addition to new installations, we undertook the repair and upgrade of 12 existing door sets, our scope also included:
- Removal and reinstallation of existing partitions to improve fire compartmentation
- Installation of a new high-level partition, complete with an additional fire door to the corridor
- Fire stopping of wall penetrations as identified in the Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) report, ensuring all voids were appropriately sealed
- Safe removal of asbestos insulating board (AIB) from a high-level beam above the new partition location
- Installation of two new cross-corridor FD30S door sets
- Fitting of new hold-open devices, fully integrated with the schools’ fire alarm panels to ensure automatic closure in the event of an alarm
Our experienced management team led all aspects of pre-construction validation, procurement, health and safety compliance and project delivery. Although the works were initially scheduled for the summer holiday period, the contract award was delayed and, combined with long lead-in times for specialist fire door sets, this meant the programme extended beyond the six-week holiday window. Working closely with the school, and prioritising the safety of students and staff we completed the works over weekends and during the October half-term.
