The R. Benson team was delighted to return to its roots when Harrow Litter Pickers (HLP) asked for help transforming a neglected service road at Station Parade in South Harrow -just around the corner from where our business began over 35 years ago.
Following four months of hard work, we were honoured to join the Mayor of Harrow, Councillor Anjana Patel, HLP volunteers, local residents and other guests on Monday 20 April to celebrate the remarkable transformation.
Tackling a Longstanding Community Issue
Harrow Litter Pickers became involved at Station Parade following escalating concerns about unmanaged waste and persistent fly-tipping.
The area had suffered from decades of neglect. Waste had accumulated around bins and service areas, spread into shared walkways and reached the adjoining public park. Drains had become blocked, access routes were frequently obstructed and rubbish was regularly thrown from balconies and rooftops towards the bin areas.
This had developed into far more than an untidy space—it was an environmental and public health issue requiring a coordinated response.
Four Months of Practical Support
Working alongside HLP, Harrow Council, local residents and other volunteers, R. Benson provided labour, vehicles, equipment and practical expertise to help restore the area.
Our contribution included:
- Clearing overgrown vegetation
- Removing heavy items, debris and discarded waste
- Removing approximately five skips of waste
- Cleaning and covering graffiti
- Providing environmental and landscaping improvements
- Preparing and improving areas for future planting
Across the wider project, at least nine skip-loads of waste were removed. Volunteers contributed a minimum of 297 hours on site, supported by a further 72 hours of administration and coordination.
