Chiltern 50km Ultra Walk

Congratulations to our weary Waterside Wanderers for walking over 50km this weekend on the Chiltern Challenge and raising over £2,000 for Bright Cancer Care.

After the blistering heat during the week the team arrived at a cool and damp start line at Henley Showground on Saturday morning.  The walk had a gentle start along the River Thames before heading into the Chiltern Hills.  Whilst the scenery was stunning the 50km route was tough with many hills, mud and endless fields being encountered along the way.

Steve Buckley and Des Naughton stormed through the challenge and finished in a very impressive 9 hours and 17 mins and 9 hours and 18 mins respectively. Linda Faulkner took her time and enjoyed the amazing views, eventually crawling over the finish line in just over 12 hours.

Thanks to the enormous generosity of friends, family and colleagues the team has raised over £2,000 for BRIGHT Cancer Care. BRIGHT funds vital research and new treatment options for gastro-intestinal, liver and pancreatic cancer patients at the St Luke’s Cancer Centre, Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford. The walk was the third event in our 2019 Fundraising programme which has already raised over £12,500 for our three chosen charities, BRIGHT Cancer Care, Kids Cancer Charity and SeeAbility, click here to find out more about the 2019 programme.

Our next events take place in September when Director, Marcus Neal will run his first marathon for SeeAbility and Contracts Manager, Mark Martin will be cycling off road from London to Brighton for Kids Cancer Charity.
