Early on Sunday 9th June, a group of R. Benson colleagues met to take part in the St Albans Half Marathon.
The team is in training for sponsored events later as part of our 2019 fundraising programme and helping to raise £20,000 for good causes. The Waterside Wanderers are training for the Chilterns 50km Ultra walk at the end of July and raising money for Bright Cancer Care. Director, Marcus Neal is training for his first marathon in September and supporting SeeAbility. Visit our Justgiving page to find out more.
The Waterside Wanderers, led by team captain Steve Buckley, took part in the walking half marathon. Steve (aka Mr Competitive) led the charge and completed the 13.1 mile walk in 02:56:41 – finishing in a very impressive 4th place in his category and 22nd overall! The rest of the team made up of Linda Faulkner, Lucy Gatfield and Derek Gatfield all completed the half marathon in great times and made it into work on Monday despite some ‘Bad Boy Blisters’ and few aching muscles.
With just over 6 weeks until the 50km Chilterns challenge the team, which also includes Des Naughton, will be walking in excess of 50km each week to prepare for the challenge. The walkers will start the challenge early on 27th July at the Henley Showground and ramble through the Chiltern Hills to the finish line in Princes Risborough approximately ten hours later.
